We are pleased to announce that we have received a grant from the George W. Jenkins Fund within the Community Foundation of Greater Lakeland in support of our Impact Lakeland Grant “Healthy Lifestyles Initiative”. Funds will be used towards a pilot program that capitalizes on the success of AFI’s Horticulture and Culinary programs. The AFI Healthy Lifestyles Initiative will focus on nutrition and how the vegetables and spices clients have grown and harvested at AFI can be used to prepare appetizing & nutritious meals. Participants will have the opportunity to visit local farms, gardens and nurseries to gain a broader understanding of how food is grown and processed. In addition, they will hear from local doctors, nutritionists, chefs and personal trainers to learn how to plan and create nutritious meals and the effects their food choices can have on their overall health.
Thank You to all of our friends at the George Jenkins Fund and the Community Foundation of Greater Lakeland! Through your generosity our clients have another opportunity to explore new avenues of independence.
If you are a healthcare professional, nutritionist, chef or personal trainer and would like to volunteer to speak to our clients as part of the Healthy Living Initiative, please contact us at 863-665-3846.
